Meeting of Waters

Day 1: Manaus - Janauari Lake - Meeting of Waters

Monday, boarding at 10am at Marina do Davi (next to the Tropical Hotel). All aboard, we will make a brief meeting to explain the safety procedures, navigation and the itinerary of the next days. After occupying the cabins, we will embark on a speedboat that will take us to the first tour of the day.

We begin to sail to the East, where we can see the coastal area of Manaus, the beach of Ponta Negra, the dome of the Amazonas Theater, the favelas, the Adolpho Lisboa Municipal Market, the colossal engineering work of the Floating Port, and more. We continue sailing through the Rio Negro and continue to the ecological reserve of Lake Janauari, where there are floating houses. Lunch will be at a floating restaurant, where you can enjoy the Amazonian cuisine (lunch included) and local handicrafts. After lunch, we will walk along a suspended walkway, from where it is possible to play with the wild monkeys and observe various other species of animals and plants, including Victoria amazonica, the famous Victoria Regia.

The climax of the day is still to come. It is when we follow the spectacular natural phenomenon, unique in the world, the Meeting of the Waters. Miles of waters of two rivers, Negro and Solimões, running side by side without mingling. A real natural spectacle! But the day is not over yet, and we will still visit a floating house where there is a creation of the giant Pirarucu (Arapaima gigas), an icon fish of the Amazon. Back on board, we will go up the Rio Negro towards the West, watching the setting sun. At dusk we will arrive at the Reserve Palmeiral, gateway to the National Park of the Anavilhanas Archipelago. There, we'll settle down for the night.

Caminhada na floresta

Day 2: Palmeiral Reserve - Anavilhanas National Park

The first activity of the second day is an adventure on land. The walk in the forest at the Palmeira site is an excellent opportunity to get to know up close the life that exists inside the Amazon rainforest. We will enter the forest, learn about the species of plants and large trees that live there, as well as insects and special animals of that forest. We will know the Rubber Tree, from which is extracted the latex, the rubber; product responsible for much of Brazil's economic and social development during the rubber boom. During the walk through the forest, accompanied by an experienced mate, will also be presented some techniques of survival in the jungle.

Then we will head towards the National Park of the Anavilhanas Archipelago, an area of 350,000 hectares with more than 650 groups of islands forming a unique ecosystem in the world.

We will sail through the labyrinth of islands to a place known as Três Bocas, in the Praia do Camaleão region. At dusk, a canoe ride to observe the wildlife of this special ecosystem.

Madadá Caves

Day 3: Madadá Caves

We continue sailing the boat through the labyrinth of islands of Anavilhanas. When we arrive at our destination, we will enter the woods for a walk that lasts about two hours. We will visit the Caves of Madada.

A little known place, in the middle of the jungle, which can only be reached by boat, canoe and then walking. The caves are a magical and unique place, and the surrounding forest has an air of mystery. There, tribal chiefs of the Indians hid during the Portuguese occupation. Let's enjoy this enchanted place enjoying its peculiar and mysterious fauna and flora. The caves serve as shelter for forest animals, bats, spiders, among others. We must be careful and careful during the whole walk, for sometimes one can observe traces of the excellent predator, the jaguar.

When we return, we continue the navigation through the archipelago towards the Jaú National Park, the greater national park of Brazil. A continuous tropical forest, located between the municipalities of Novo Airão and Barcelos.

Motorboat Ride

Day 4: Jaú and Carabinani Rivers

Jaú National Park is the largest national park in Brazil. Currently, this ecological paradise is known as a model Conservation Unit in the Amazon. Here, human presence is minimal. Let us explore the tributaries and lakes within this which is one of the largest biological preservation areas in the world.

We will enter Jaú River, observing the animals of the region. It is common to find otters, anteas, pacas, alligators, snakes, fishermen, seagulls, among others. Passing through the Pretinho stream, a tributary with dark waters, it is possible to reach a small black waterfall (depending on the water level).

When arriving at the rapids of the Carabinani River, according to the level of the waters, it is possible to see the peculiar formations of an environment that resists to periods of flood, known by the local people as enchanted forest. We can still take a walk in the forest and at night, a canoe ride to observe the animals.

Old Airão Ruins

Day 5: Jaú River - Velho Airão

We start the day sailing and observing the wildlife of Jaú National Park. With luck, it is possible to be surprised by otters, monkeys and macaws.

On this day we will visit the abandoned city of Velho Airão. An old city, built at the time of the rubber boom, but today, it houses only the ruins of that era. Here we can deepen our understanding of the rubber era, since the village is one of the last remnants of the era. His only inhabitant tells us the history of that place, about the wealthy families who controlled the rubber trade, the exploitation, the slave labor, the search for wealth provided by the rubber tree latex, at that time called white gold.

Following, we continue the navigation through the archipelago up to a place named Três Bocas (Three Mouths).

Visiting an Indian Village

Day 6: Três Bocas - Ariaú River

When we arrive in the Terra Preta community, we will visit a village of the Barés Indians. There, we will know how cassava is grown, how it is processed to obtain flour, gum, tapioca and other foods. We will also know many species of fruit trees that they grow, such as Açaí, Buriti, Tucumã, Pupunha, Banana, etc. If you want, you can buy handicrafts produced by the Indian tribes, and thus contribute to family income.

We will sail through the great bay until we reach the Ariaú river. On the way, depending on the water level, it is possible to stop on one of the white sandy beaches to cool off with a delicious bath.

At dusk, we must be arriving in the Ariaú river. Famous for being the setting for the recording of the movie Anaconda, it is a river formed by the union of waters from the Solimões (Amazonas) and Negro rivers, presenting characteristics of both ecosystems. At night, a canoe trip to observe the nocturnal fauna.

Motorboat Ride

Day 7: Ariaú River - Manaus

Everything regulated by law and supervised by responsible bodies such as IPAAM and IBAMA.

In the area of the Ariaú River it is still possible to take a canoe trip at the beginning of the day and see the fauna and flora of that region in the light of day. It is common to observe animals such as the monkey guariba, macaco-de-cheiro, parrots, gypsies, herons and ospreys, among others.

We will sail back to Manaus while having lunch aboard the boat, enjoying the delicious Amazonian cuisine.
